Visual Studio 2005

Visual Studio 2005 should (fingers crossed) be here within a year. There are many new features; the following appeal to me:

• improved C++
  • increased ANSI compliance
  • managed C++/CLI (also see Herb Sutter's presentation at SD West)
  • OpenMP 2.0 support (for both managed and native code)
  • 64-bit support - targetting AMD64 and Itanium (C++/CLI can also target 64-bit .NET CLR)
  • profile-guided optimization
  • static code correctness - PREfast
  • improved security
• IDE enhancements including support for refactoring
• improved deployment tools – ClickOnce
• improved architect tools (Whitehorse)
• improved project management, testing and source control (Visual Studio 2005 Team System)
